In this article I share some of my fun landscape photography taken out of airplane windows and interpret one of the images to create an artwork using Oil Paint Sticks. The stiff drawing oils and juicy oil pigment sticks help artists to create crayon-like drawings, then bold layered strokes and interesting marks, making the resulting paintings alive with exciting texture.

Some of the things you will learn from this workshop include:

good surfaces to choose for oil painting;
what are oil paint pigment sticks vs drawing oils;
how to prep the oil sticks for painting;
applying oil paint sticks directly to a painting surface;
how to use a brush to smooth the textured paint and fill in the tooth of the surface;
applying oil stick paint with taps and swirls;
layering different colors over one another;
