In this article I celebrate my Birthday Week by painting delicious desserts live! Included are watercolor cupcakes, a brightly colored acrylic cake and a mouth watering stack of my favorite flavored macaroon cookies in oil pastel.
“Macaroon Stack” is a delectable textured oil pastel painting by artist Tristina Dietz Elmes.

how to layer watercolors to build darkness and depth;
considering a light-source, then shading accordingly to create dimension in your art;
when to sketch with water-soluble pencils vs non water-soluble pencils;
how to block in colors with acrylic pens before painting over with acrylic paints or oil pastels;
