Teaching Art Workshops - Art of the Carolina's, Raleigh, North Carolina

Art of the Carolina’s

November 8 - 11, 2018

I enjoyed teaching painting workshops with Pebeo Paints at Art of the Carolina’s in Raleigh, North Carolina. So amazing to see other’s interpretation of the projects; I always get to learn from my talented students.

Pebeo Liquid Oil Paint and Resin Geode Painting Workshop

This workshop introduced students to Pebeo’s Cerne Relief outliner that we used to create the rings of a geode on canvas or painting panel, then filled the rings in with exciting shape-shifting mixed media oil-based paints by Pebeo; Fantasy Moon, Fantasy Prisme, Vitrail and Ceramic. As a special treat, I showed everyone how to use Pebeo resin with a silicon mold to create faux geode “crystals” for the center of their artworks.

It was suggested, but optional, in the workshop to paint the background of the artist’s work surface with a layer of acrylic paint and allow it to dry before applying the cerne relief outliner and then mixed media oil paints. Note that these oil-based paints need to be stirred well (not shaken 😉) before use… I usually just use the back end of my paint brush for this stir, then clean it off with a paper towel.

Here are the Pebeo paints that were used in this workshop as well as other supplies. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Pebeo Fantasy Frangipani Flower Painting Workshop

This project was done with the same process as the geode project above, however, the students used a flower image on paper with tracing paper to create a drawing on the canvas surface before outlining with cerne relief and filling with Pebeo’s liquid oil paints.

Notice in the following photos the technique of using a toothpick or skewer to help the liquid oil paints get down into small areas…

Pebeo 4Artist Oil Paint Marker City Rain Painting Workshop

It was such a blast showing this room of excited artists how to use Pebeo’s oil paint markers with a TINY amount of mineral spirits on their brushes to achieve a fantastic painterly art effect without the mess of tube oil paints! Plus, these marker paints are fast drying, so the attendee’s paintings were dry at the end of class with no need to wait weeks to dry like a traditional oil painting.

If you want to see me explain the basics of working with these amazing markers, check out this video:

It was also such a thrill to sit with accomplished artist Jeanne Rhea for a chat about her process of painting with alcohol inks, acrylic paints, oil paint markers and the way she stacks them all between layers of resin. Her new geometrics series of paintings has drawn an incredible amount of attention from art collectors and critical acclaim from her galleries. Plus, she gave me a small piece of Jeanne Rhea poured art to bring home! 💖

I wish a heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to all my students for their terrific work in my classes, and a huge THANK YOU to Pebeo for sponsoring me to teach these workshops. 🎨😍
